The week’s live cattle trading began with Monday losses. Futures ended the day down 35 to 55 cents in the front months. There were no cash sales announced for Monday, though USDA confirmed most cash sales last week were near $124 and $196 for dressed. Feeder cattle losses reached $2.07 by the close for the front months. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was $153.90, up 55 cents, on 10/15.  

China’s customs data reported September beef imports at 220k MT. That brought the YTD total to 1.74 MMT – a 10.6% increase yr/yr. 

Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were weaker on Monday, as USDA quoted Choice 15 cents lower at $280.09 and Select 81 cents lower at $259.81. USDA saw Monday’s FI cattle slaughter at 120,000 head. That is down 1,000 from last week, but is 1,000 higher yr/yr. 

Dec 21 Cattle  closed at $130.425, down $0.550,

Feb 22 Cattle  closed at $135.000, down $0.350,

Nov 21 Feeder Cattle  closed at $159.350, down $2.075

Jan 22 Feeder Cattle  closed at $159.550, down $1.975
